5 COMMON EATING MISTAKES TO AVOID AS PER AYURVEDA

Contemporary lifestyle requires one to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Your productivity defines your growth in life and let me clear it here that it is directly proportional to your
health. Hence, it is essential for you to take very good care of yourself. Moreover, in order to participate efficiently in the economy, one needs to first understand and manage the economics of one’s body and well-being.

Ayurveda helps you stay healthy, and maintain your mental well-being, which is extremely important as well as difficult in the present-day scenario. Do you really think
that your eating habits are well in sink with your proper well-being? Well, according to Ayurveda, we all make some common mistakes while eating which can affect our overall health.
Have a look at some common dietary mistakes here:

1. OVEREATING
Ayurveda suggests that overeating can lead to accumulation of toxins in your body which cannot be removed. Therefore, one must only eat sattvik food which
is light on the body. Overeating can also lead to several health problems like trouble in sleeping, flatulence, indigestion etc. Therefore, we should always eat little less than our hunger.

2. STANDING AND EATING
We are all guilty of this one mistake. Having a meal while standing, is strictly prohibited in Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda experts, the posture in which oneeats greatly affects the digestion process. There is a concept of sukoon in Ayurveda, according to which if you are standing and eating your body will not be
able to focus on the food, and won’t be able to be at peace. Standing while consuming food can distract the bodily senses not allowing the body to find “sukoon” in eating, which may upset the system.

3. FOOD COMBINATIONS
An imperfect pairing of food items can affect your digestive system, for instance, eating milk and banana together, or melon with grains, or curd with citrus fruits.
Pairing a food item which is cold in nature with one which is hot confuses the digestive system, and this may lead to an imbalance of the doshas of your body causing indigestion, gas formation, or bloating.

4. CONSUMING WATER
Consuming water during or right after the meals is not advised, we are told since childhood. However, we do it anyway. Drinking chilled water can shock the digestive system, and affect the functioning of gastric juices, thus hampering the digestive process. Ayurveda advises drinking warm water half an hour before or after the meals as it won’t disturb the internal temperature of the body. It also allows the body to focus on digestion instead of trying to regulate the body temperature as would be the case if cold water is consumed.

5. FAST EATING
Eating your food fast means you are not chewing it well. The less work your mouth does in digesting, the more pressure you put on your body to digest the food. This is why we were taught in school that we must chew our food thirty-two times.
Slow eating enables a better breakdown of fats and other enzymes that are significant for good digestion. Eating your food fast leads to poor digestion which can cause severe health issues like weight gain and bloat.

Staying fit and healthy is not as difficult as it is assumed. It begins from very little things like just eating your food right. Following little good habits while eating can make you healthy and fit for a lifetime.
